January 3, 2017

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Medicines for Children has worked with nurses from the children’s charity WellChild and Edge Hill University to produce 10 new instructional films to help parents/carers with giving medicines to their children.

The 10 films cover a variety of common ways to give different types of medicines, as listed below:

  • How to give eye drops
  • How to apply eye ointment
  • How to give ear drops
  • How to apply creams and ointments
  • How to give a tablet or capsule
  • How to give a part dose of a tablet or capsule
  • How to give liquid medicine from a bottle with a bung
  • How to give liquid medicine from a bottle without a bung
  • How to give medicines through a nasogastric tube (NG tube)
  • How to give medicines through a gastrostomy tube

The full range of films are available either below, or with further written instructions on the ‘Types of Medicines’ information page here: www.medicinesforchildren.org.uk/types-of-medicines

Thank you to everyone who helped in the development of these films, especially to the Medicines for Children project board for their medical expertise, to WellChild mum Shelley for staring in the films, and to Esther and Elaine the WellChild nurses who advised on set at the Better at Home suite at Edge Hill University.

If there are particular medicines administration procedures that you would like us to produce an instructional film for, please let us know via the feedback form: http://www.medicinesforchildren.org.uk/contact
