British National Formulary for Children (BNFC)
The British National Formulary for Children (BNFC) is a reference guide for UK health professionals engaged in prescribing, dispensing, and administering medicines to children.
The BNF for Children is a child-focused medicines formulary which provides concise guidance and practical advice for those prescribing, dispensing, and administering medicines to children. It is available to view here: www.pharmaceuticalpress.com/bnf-publications
A new edition of the formulary is published every year which ensures up-to-date, evidence-based guidance is available. The BNFC also provides legal and professional instruction, best practice guidelines and advice from a network of paediatric experts. The BNFC supports confident decision-making at the point of care. The BNFC includes links to Medicines for Children information leaflets, where we have published medicines information available.
Th BNFC is jointly published by the British Medical Association, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group, with the development process overseen by a paediatric formulary committee.
For the most up-to-date content, the BNFC team ask that their users refer to digital versions of the BNF for Children. The publishers work to ensure that the information is as accurate and up-to-date as possible at the date of publication, but knowledge and best practice in this field change regularly. Prescribers, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals are advised to check www.bnf.org for information about key updates and corrections.
The team at the BNF for Children recently created a suite of videos to help users download, update, and use the BNF + BNFC app. They plan to add to this with more focused topics on how to use the BNF + BNFC app. The videos are available to view here: BNF + BNFC app video library
