How are we using QR codes to improve access to our information?

QR codes have become a common feature of everyday life, helping people to quickly obtain information using their smart phone. Find out how Medicines for Children are using QR codes.

QR codes have become a common feature of everyday life, helping people to quickly obtain information using their smart phone. The smart phone camera, or a scanning app, is used to read the QR code and the information linked to it is downloaded onto the phone. Having information downloaded onto a phone means that it is readily to hand and it does not need to be printed out.

Our new digital assistant, Ishini Mendis, is helping Medicines for Children to develop ways in which we can use QR to help more people access our information. For example:

  • We can provide healthcare professionals with posters of QR codes for information about relevant medicines; parents and carers scan the QR codes for the medicines their children are taking
  • Parents and carers may use the QR codes to share information with school and other people who care for their children
  • The “General information on medicines” QR poster can be put up in youth centres, nurseries, schools and health centres.

If you are working with children and would like to use QR codes to improve access to our information about medicines, please contact us (Ishini.Mendis@rcpch.ac.uk). We can customise the poster for your organisation, and include your logo and branding.
