Developing new medicines information
A key role for health professionals to support Medicines for Children is through identifying additional medicines that are needed within our library, and then sharing their technical expertise to help in the development of these new medicines information leaflets.
Medical expertise and experience is vital in the development of new medicines information for parents and carers. This information must first and foremost be written in a way that is easy to understand for non-medics, as well as accurate and practical – offering guidance that is useful for families. We rely on health professionals with many years of experience working with children to share their medicines knowledge with us, in order to develop the information that families need to know.
Health professionals can get involved in two ways:
-
Developing new medicines information – view full list here
-
Reviewing existing medicines information – more information on this here
It usually takes authors around two hours to develop a new medicine information leaflet, and 30–45 minutes to review an existing (published) medicine.
Developing new information leaflets
- We have an ever-growing list of medicines which have been requested by families and are awaiting development for the Medicines for Children website.
- We are always looking for keen health professionals to work with us to write the clinical information needed for the medicines leaflet.
- The Medicines for Children team will you support you in this work, by providing a detailed template of what information needs to be covered in the leaflet and the team are on hand to talk through the process and answer any questions.
- Once your leaflet is published on Medicines for Children, you will receive an official letter of acknowledgement and a certificate thanking you for your work. This letter and certificate can be used as evidence for your personal development portfolio.
- NB. We have only recently started offering letters of acknowledgement and certificates (September 2024) – please get in touch if you have worked with us previously and would like to receive a backdated letter.
