Shortages of Norditropin Flexpro and Nordiflex

Supplies of Norditropin Flexpro and Norditropin Nordiflex growth hormone (somatropin) will be limited in 2023 because of manufacturing issues. Your child may need to be prescribed other growth hormone products.

January 11, 2023

Due to manufacturing issues, supplies of Norditropin Flexpro and Norditropin Nordiflex growth hormone (somatropin) will be limited in 2023. Instead, children will be given prescriptions for Omnitrope SurePal which is a different growth hormone product. It works in the same way as the Norditropin products. Some children may be prescribed other growth hormone products.

  • Your healthcare professional will contact you to explain the change and to find out how many Norditropin pens you have at home. They will arrange a new prescription if necessary.
  • Supplies of growth hormone will be controlled to make sure that everyone gets what they need. Patients will be given prescription that lasts 6 months and medicine will be delivered every 4 weeks. Parents should not save extra pens at home.
  • Patients and parents/carers will be shown how to use the Omnitrope growth hormone pen.

If you are likely to run out of growth hormone before you are contacted about the change in prescription, contact the health professional who prescribes it for you.
